Painting and Pastels
Throughout my life, painting and drawing has given me a meaningful connection with the world, and a way to express this to others. My paintings are abstract impressions of natural subjects - landscapes, cityscapes, still life and figurative. I use the brush, pastels and paint, to bring to life my connection with the interlocking of light, colors and shapes on paper and canvas.

When I make my art, I try to stay true to the passionate feelings I get when I come up with an idea, whether it came from a dream, or from an image that inspired me. My work usually doesn't change much from my original idea. Except, that I add a little unexpected twist to my pieces that I don't usually discover until I am just about finished. And to me, that is the most exciting part because the idea comes out of nowhere, not even from a dream. It surprizes me as I hope it does my viewers.

Fabric
Although she has been sewing and creating since childhood, Ann Lee has only recently recognized herself as an artist. Her sister was an artist; her daughter was an artist; she wasn’t an artist, was she? Only slowly did she recognize that it’s her constitutional need to create things with cloth and to try new combinations, materials, and techniques that made her an artist not a degree or certificate.

Jewelry
I love the endless possibilities that working with metal presents. As I create, my goal for each piece is to reflect true craftmanship. Many of my pieces are one of a kind or limited edition, each one cut and formed by hand. I love the possibilities that come with twisting, weaving, and shaping wire, moving and forming metal. It is what keeps me experimenting with, and exploring this wonderful medium. After teaching elementary education, special education, religious education, and Tae Kwon Do, I have turned my attention back to my first love, which is to create using my hands. I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoyed crafting them.

Sculpture/Painting
I have a BFA from Boston University and have worked in the field of sculpture for over 20 years. "As a sculptor/painter, I predominantly expresses myself through images of the human figure. Sensitivity to the human condition inspires me to create images of strength and beauty on a personable and friendly scale." Ancient techniques of mold making and clay work play a large part in the process of my work; yet my choice of materials can be variable and contemporary. Recent work involves an exploration of color and texture using new and varied mediums.

Painting
I am intrigued by how we perceive the world around us. Our vision and our perceptions are influenced by a multitude of factors including our knowledge base, our upbringing, the speed with which we move, our optical nerves, the time of day and many, many other factors. These factors alter our perceptions in ways that can cause the things in life that are closest to us to be out of focus, objects in the middle ground are sometime glimpsed with clarity but in the distance things can again appear ambiguous. These visual and mental limits of our perception fascinate me.

Stone, bronze, mixed media - contemporary art with
I enjoy creating my artwork in a variety of materials. When I work in marble, the stone reveals certain possibilities, and then a dialogue occurs as I work to remove the excess material. My mixed media work is driven by the idea, and I seek the materials which best relay my thoughts to the viewer. My plaster and cement gargoyles are created using traditional modeling and molding techniques, and reflect my love of architectural ornaments, animals and classical sculpture.

My name is Liz Smith, I call my enterprise made in lowell. I am constantly learning new skills while always trying to put my fine arts education toward the creation of more decorative items. I have worked with polymer clay for almost twenty years. I am fascinated with surface design, shape, color and texture and am still thrilled each time I create a new egg. Making my own wool felt is my latest joy, but assembling jewelry with beads and stones remains interesting too. Having a studio at Western Avenue Studios allows me to add other media, including printmaking, to my list.

Innisfree Cards

Collage Art Cards
Innisfree Cards...I derive my card company's name from a poem by W. B. Yates, titled "The Lake Isle of Innisfree," in which the poet writes about this island in Ireland,"I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, and a small cabin build there...and I shall have some peace there…" It is in the art studio of my home where I find creative peace in the designing of my custom, one-of-a-kind art cards. I incorporate color, sparkle and whimsy into each of my cards using papermaking, collage, and fiber art techniques. I can design any card to your custom color scheme or size – I want the card to be just perfect for your wedding, party or any special occasion. My art cards can be purchased at Ayers Loft Gallery and Revolving Museum during the 2008 LOS.

Fiber
My fiber arts have its roots in weaving. I am inspired to use unlimited color combinations and textures when creating my hand-woven rugs and wall hangings. I dye many of my materials myself, allowing me to apply my own color scheme. Recently, my interest in different resist dyeing techniques has led me to try other processes including quilting and appliqué work. It gives me freedom to try new imagery with curved lines, but still simplified motifs of objects and nature.
